Vaulting is perhaps best defined as gymnastics on horseback and is one of the 7 disciplines currently recognised by the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI). Competitive Vaulting is a youth sport, however at the Novice and Recreational levels it has much to offer to all ages and abilities.

The team can be six vaulters, a pair or individual, whom work with one horse under the control of a lunger or using a vaulting barrel. This inclusion of vaulting within RDA activities has opened yet another channel for our riders to develop and build a wide range of skills which can be transferable throughout all areas of their lives; including learning to work as part of a team to achieve a goal, helping to boost their self-confidence and build on their interpersonal skills.

The physical benefits too can be profound, such as helping with general fitness, balance, motor skills, flexibility, co-ordination and core strength.  This has not gone unnoticed by key members of the Health & Education Sectors, who continue to welcome and support this exciting and increasingly popular RDA activity.

It is a hugely rewarding activity. Groups who have taken up the exciting activity and offer vaulting to their riders all give testament to the fun and sense of achievement that it brings, along with the huge benefits it offers to all those taking part.
