LEAP YEARS: Leap years do not affect annual boosters so long as they continue to be given not more than a year apart, i.e. on or before the date of the previous booster. However if you are starting or restarting your horse's vaccinations the days must be counted and the leap year may affect this. Please ensure your boosters are booked in plenty of time.

On this page, you will find information on our the RDA Free Vaccination Scheme as well as access to our Vaccination checker.

RDA Free Vaccine Scheme

For a number of years, pharmaceutical companies manufacturing horse vaccines have supplied free vaccine for animals used in RDA work. This is done by free replacement of vaccine used by the veterinary surgeon on receipt of an application.

The companies involved have been supplying several hundred doses every year and it is important to ensure that their charity is not abused. Obviously, it covers the cost of the vaccine only and not the cost of travel services.

Any animal owned by RDA or on full loan, used primarily for such work (70% of workload MUST be RDA) will be eligible.

Please find to the right of this page all the forms relating to the vaccine reimbursement scheme.

Vaccination Checklist Guidelines:

  • Take the date of the first injection and look this up in the column headed INJECTION DATE
  • Compare the dates in 21 DAYS and 92 DAYS columns with the date in the flu vac record for second injection, if the date is within range it is fine, if not it is an invalid record
  • Take the date of the second injection and look this up in the column headed INJECTION DATE
  • Compare the dates in 150 DAYS and 215 DAYS columns with the date in the flu vac record for third injection (first booster), if the date is within range it is fine, if not it is an invalid record (unless the two primary injections were before 1 January 2009)
