Volunteering with RDA
The President's Award

In celebration of RDA's 40th Anniversary and recognising the incredible input of volunteers to RDA's success, the President of RDA, HRH The Princess Royal, kindly agreed to the creation of the RDA President's Award for a maximum of 20 recipients a year.

Criteria for nomination

Nominees for the President's Award must have given at least 25 years service to RDA and have shown exceptional dedication to the Association or one of the Member Groups. A volunteer who has served less than 25 years but made an outstanding and exceptional contribution to the organisation may be considered eligible by the Committee for nomination, but guidance must be sought from either the Award Coordinator or the Volunteer Development Manager before their nomination is submitted.


Nominations may only be made by:

  • RDA National Trustees
  • Regional Chairmen
  • Chairmen of RDA Committees
  • The Chief Executive

Volunteers and Member Groups wishing to suggest a name for nomination should contact their Regional Chairman.

All Nominations:

  • should be in writing (including by email) of no more than 200 words and no less than 150 words, giving length of service and how the nominee's contribution to RDA is deserving of recognition;
  • multiple nominations from the approved nominators must be submitted separately;
  • are strictly confidential;
  • should be sent to the appointed President's Award Coordinator (see below).
  • will be acknowledged.

The Nomination Committee:

  • under the Chairmanship of Mrs Jane Holderness-Roddam, will include an Hon Life Vice President, a Trustee, a Regional Chairman and a member of National Office staff;
  • will chose the 20 volunteers to receive the Award for the forthcoming year from the nominations received by the closing date for receipt of nomination.

The Nomination Committee's decision will be final.

Presentation of Awards:

Where possible certificates will be presented by HRH The Princess Royal at the AGM, a Group visit if appropriate, or Supra Region Conference.

Administration of the Award

National Office, assisted by an appointed volunteer or member of staff who will act as the Award Coordinator, will be responsible for the administration of the President's Award.

Timetable for 2012:

Nominations must be received by the President's Award Coordinator by 31 November 2011.
